Y5SM (set) – Practise spellings on list and complete spelling activities.
Y5BW (set) – Write either a limerick or a poem using Patois – remember to ensure it contains all of the features it should

Y5 SM (set) – Draw and find the area of 10 right angled triangles.
Y5 WB (set) – Play on Big Bus Explorers World 7 Mental Maths via Marlcliffe website (set it up on Easy setting)
Science
Y5BW & Y5SM – Draw a diagram of a musical instrument of your choice and describe how the pitch varies on it. Visit the following website if you have a computer for fun games.

Mrs Meeks literacy set – Practise spellings and complete activity sheet related to spellings. (Focus – letter strings –ight and -ie)
Mr Brooks/Miss Wood literacy set – Write a 5-paragraph set of instructions to teach a member of your family how to do something you can do, but they can’t. Make your instructions detailed enough so they can understand it. In your first paragraph, get them interested enough to carry out the instructions and in the last paragraph, give a summary of what you’ve told ‘em. As a result of feedback received on parent’s/carer’s evenings, we are giving the children longer to complete their homework. It will be given out every other Friday, to be brought in a week the following Wednesday. Thank you for your comments.
Y5WB Personal spellings. Write target spelling words in a sentence. Include capitals & full stops. Repeat & add second sentence, ensuring correct full stops & capitals.
Y5SM Personal Spellings. Complete activity sheet on reverse of spelling list. Focus, suffix ‘ful’.
Maths: Create 5 word problems involving addition and subtraction. Don’t make them too easy!
Science: What have you learnt about in Science this half term? Which experiment have you enjoyed the most? Describe it in detail.
Maths: Make a net for 3D shape other than a cube.
English (SM): Draw a picture of the Joseph character from Street Child. How do you imagine him to look? Add labels to describe what he’s like, what he does & what people think of him. Add thought bubbles to show what Joseph might be thinking. Spelling list 10 practice.
English (BW): Draw a picture of a character from a book you’ve read recently. How do you imagine the character to look? Add labels to describe what the character is like and what other characters think about your character. Ensure your ascenders and descenders are well formed (the bits that go up & down in your handwriting).
Science: Decide on any science question you can investigate at home (eg, which material keeps a drink warm for longest?). Write up a method for how you will do the investigation. It should be very very detailed – so that even Madonna could repeat your investigation.

English: For SM set only – practice words from spellings list 9 for a test on Friday 3rd October. Every child take a recount text with full stops & caps removed. Write it out in best handwriting, slowly & carefully, placing full stops & caps in correct place. Look on blog for answers.
Maths: Create a book about 2D shapes and their properties, include a glossary.
Science: explain why you burp when you drink a fizzy drink (you could try it yourself!)

English: For SM set only – practice words from spellings list for a test on Friday 26th September. Every child to watch TV news or look at video clips on BBC Newsround site or BBC news site. Pretend that you are a person involved in the story and write a recount of what happened to you. Ensure correct punctuation/ use of past tense.
Maths: Each child must practise the times table that they have been working on in class.
Science: Use sheet to write description of being a solid, a liquid and a gas.

English: For most children – practice words from spellings list for a test on Friday 19th September. For some children – use the zapper to practice a selection of words from the Thrass list. For all children you can use the spellings links on the main school website at www.marlcliffe.sheffield.sch.uk. Write own haiku using Two Dragonflies website ideas to help you.
Maths: Complete five subtraction calculations and five additions using a method shown this week.
Science: Sort descriptions of behaviour of solids, liquids and gases into correct place in table on sheet.
